Retour

me and my thousands buddies

Well, lately I've been sharing myself with some thousands of buddies running around, doing the "fuck around". It's something that's tricky to experience, cos if you're not aware of it you dont no they're here and hese buddies have a tendancy to vote you out. Fortunatelly for most of my readers they never met with my buddies. Like Us they are many different types of buddies, many of them not clearly seen yet. These buddies also reflect our society's mentality, and are used by Us against poor countries that cannot afford to get the mean to stop them sharing Us with Ourselves.... I know it's confusing, and also I could have wrotten it in french, but I've got some concern over some of my people caring about me and getting scared too quickly sometimes. But U cannot stop people caring for U can't U? Also U do not want to. So I used the mean to get these buddies stopping sharing my body, cos I'm eventually the only one to own this body, and the only one that know how to use it... they would desroy it, and actually they do not look for something else. My body became a mean of multiplication, and if I didn't react quickly enough, they would have got rid of me. I'm still feeling dizzy though, the remedy has to be taken for 7 days along with paracetamol, and you must eat, drink and sleep a lot in order to this anti malaria treatment to work... bloody buddies almost quicked me out of my body.

If you want a clear read of what malaria is (french link here), otherwise try malaria and Plasmodium falciparum in Google, I'm amazed to know now the reproduction cycle of these buddies. So much for a so small one. Chapeau

Wizzardery

Hi people,
as you may understand, it is a straight translation from the french... nope, forget about it, I just cant B arsed (wh o on earth invented such a horrible expression anyway). I've given up on it, rather, I'm gonna say stuff in english, some other in french, I'll maybe do some spanish or portuguese depending on da moooooood!!!
So today is about sorcery and Africa, more precisely my little city of Pointe Noire. I discovered that in here, when U order a drink, they bring U the little table protection they put below the glass or the bottle. I just cannot workout the name, if anyone has it, please put it on comment, it's 10 credit award on your overall university credits for the graduation (hahaha!!!). Well, I was drinking and enjoying the coupé décalé music (very african music when U dance almost feet clamped on the floor and shakin' dat aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassss!!!). I was even participating (holly capoeira enabling us to do sooooooo many thing after!!), and every time I was coming back to have a sip of N'gok (local beer), the glass was tapped, and the bottle recaped.... after this happening 3-4 times, I asked the niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice barmaid why she kept on doing this. Know why?
.........
.........
........
........
Actually they believe spirit can come sent by a marabou, sorcerer, and enter either Ur glass or Ur bottle and when U drink they bewitch U... so the cap is actually to prevent the cast spirit or to suffocate it... they took it a bit too seriously when I told them I was a chemist, so like a sorcerer, and I knew counter casts for that... ppl were avoiding me sometimes... :-)

expatriates

After such a time spent in Africa doing everything around what is called Coiled Tubing (dont ask, I wont explain, it's too long, I'll U pics, it's funnier), I thought it could B fun to leave a post in my blog, for the 2 or 3 of U that dare to read me. So now I'm getting into a routine of learning (everything is a routine U know, little or big one). One has to discover the world of te expatriate, like me. I'll B obviously limited by the exemple of the expatriate in Africa, either african of from another continent. In this scheme, the oldest behaviour are pointed out. The first one is the almost absence of monogamia (I'm the rare one of the kind). To give them a point (poor ones!!), congolese females have an approach style of the wallet... sorry of the little expat rather direct, kind of close to sexual harrasment that 60s female beattles fan would have been abble to give to John, Paul, Ringo and George outside Abbey road... only if I had a helicopter to pick up my brrrrred in zeee morrrning, life would B easier. We have a terrible life, exemple: I wanna get into a cab, wham!! I get a congolese female getting along with me, and if U're not carefull, she warms up the bed while U take Ur coffee (nights R cold in Congo, too much air conditional) and empty Ur wallet. Another one: U go out at night, and when Ur lucky not to B attacked by (female) mosquitoes, the one that give U malaria (the males just stupidely fly noisily around U without even thinking of bitting U... good lads), U're attacked by money hungry congolese (also females) over sexual issues. I think that most of them did resist for about 20 minutes B4 getting one of these hungry ladies. I also heard of scarry stories of these ebony women not satisfied by the salary at the end of the night (or when inexistant), they just call police to get U arrested, either in your house... fun... or at the base... even funnier.. and if U hide there, the girl star to scream about how badly U took her, and everything (real or not) U've done to her, until U finally appear, give a big tip to the girl to make her leave the place (usually she shares it with the cops). Some of these expatriates are rotationers (which is like most of the oilfields guys except for engineers at our company, which isn't a positive point for me), and these are really picturesques. The ones I know are french and if U try to picture the typical french represented by foreigners, well U're just right on it. Sometimes I have the feeling they're playing it so much it is true. One of these guy, ppl were saying "U'll see, this guy gets one girl every night", that was true. 50 years old, married 2 kids, before he arrived at location he called his previous rotation last g/f, and sometimes she arrives at the house (we share houses in here, big ones so it's ok) before him!!! And the girl says she's 19 (so probably even less not to scare him with under age sexual attempt). I didn't want to try to represent how wide his wife was for him to be that sexual hungry. The day after the girl was in fact different, and I saw that this guy was famous in this city, around the young females I meant... One night I got out with him, bored not knowing what to do and wanting to discover the city (I later realised he didn't no about the city, cos expats and local leave a different life really). That night out was a laugh, in a bitter way, so as to discover how to bring what can be the equivalent of a local suburb scouce pub in Africa... with the lads, the music, the mild warm beer and everything... "get me out of here!!!!!!!!!!!!" I suddenly thought. And now for the best one, we had a chatt about the beach front (rather nice in Pointe Noire, but that will B another post), and he told me that once he felt romantic, so he brought a girl at the beach that night and fucked her there (I use the term in purpose, though if I could find more pejorative, I'd use it), nice!!!!. Another one about how "educated" he was, one morning, after the girl left, he told me that (in between coffee and toast) the girl had a face where U could read "fuck me everywhere"... this is a maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan's world... this is a maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan's world!!!. I can't really remember it all about what he said, but eventually that is funny. So that's it about the expatriates and fidelity as an option.

First blog

Hi all,
first one of what is my blog, note book of the travelling parrot. So there I am, in Congo (republic of, not Democratic republic of, aka Zaire). First time in Africa, but as I didn't know how I'd come here, those knowing me never saw me on the organised trip side, I'm all for discovery, and my hollydays standart isn't necessarly shared. Anyway, as I entered the plane I soon realised I could forget about my night movies. Air Gabon is in a bad shape and does plane leasing to cut off expenses, so we were flying through Air Maroc, good food, confi plane, business class (sorry 4 the frenchies, I didn't mention it). Arriving at Libreville the next day for 1h, plane changing, becoming 3h waiting...I guess that's local habits (I thought). We board through another company, so I guess that the 3h were to find a plane and a crew to fly the baby. Arriving in Pointe Noire was my first shock, as the arrival looks like the farmer's storehoure, including spiderwebs and the spiderwebs inhabitants (niiiiiiiiice!!), I guessed the terrorist attacks wouldn't consern the city, which is good. After police check, I see myself getting out of that to realise I was the only white ass of the place. I see a guy coming, he's got a Schlumberger pin on his shirt, he was just passing by (he's the travel guy collecting Schlumberger employees to bring them to the base), leaving close to the airport, to check on new expatriates. I was not on his passenger's list as Schlumberger doesn't operate anymore with Air Gabon (they did the booking right!! I didn't). So after a quick thanks to my lucky star, cos begging is very comon here, and I was loaded, so I didn't feel quite confi anymore. Off we go to his place to wait for a ompany bus to drive me to the villa. I strangely felt confident in the atmosphere, close to the brazilian life. There comes the Schlum van, clim inside, corporate tape explaining malaria... welcome to the real world, I may do a P.S. with all the funny stuff around, gives the creep (guess where ebola comes from... :D). So from then on I imagined arriving in my appartment, with beach view, wifi internet and other nice and fit ladies performing thai massage to relax after a long and laborious day...I'll pass the safari type travel inside the city, as 1/3 of the city only has asphalt, thinking that it is an oilfield production city, it makes you laugh, actually I should buy an Africa Twinn 500cc to go to work. Back in my van, arriving at the staff house (forget the villa) inside the city (forget the beach), and there is a 51 year old chap inside having a coffe (forget about the massage). There you could have heard me "Houston, I have a problem". The guy is an old rotation field technician, having travelled all around places where holes can B made, showed me pictures, and I start my first day of work, a sunday... I have to say it wasn't exactely what was said in my first week seminary, but it wasn't like I was sent to the goulag so... the guy gave me about 500 files of what would be handy for me to work for my next 3 month. and it's not that much!!! So after that we went to lunch, at the sea font, amazing places where U eat quite nicely, for a good price, I though the place more expensive actually. the lunch was followed by an introduction to the Schlum base, where I was introduced to my managers and operators.... yes it is sunday, a day like the others, as I work 7 days a week. Alright, little discrepency here, as I have mentioned earlier, they didn't no I would arrive that day, so the house wasn't ready for me, meaning hotel.
Next day, starting 07h30 (gosh), I have an introduction to my workspace, the yard, where I'll work for the next year, who and what is where, then they gave me boots, worksuit (blue), glove and hard hat, assigned me to a team , gave me a tap on the back and said "now you're with them, good bye"......
I felt shot in the back (the slap might have helped, old but fit italian he was).... I got scared like like it didn't happen to me since my first day in Brasil (It's ok now, I feel much better). So U want to know what my job is? there you are: Field Engineer Trainee (till september, dont worry). Sounds pretty but the trainee thingy at the end is actually what makes me being at the bottom of the chain. Cos I need to know how all these big machines work and how the job is properly done; so I have to mount, maintain and dismount them all (actually, the reverse order to B precise), screwing on and off. Then when all workers go home, my engineer part rise up, and I have to stay at an office to do all these corporate stuff, to learn the theory of oil extraction from bottom to top (hehe, that works also litteraly doesn't it... how good I'm in english, I'm planning to become the french Stephen Clarke muahahahaha!!! errr NO!!). So this "engineering bit" starts at 18h to gently finish around 22h. One into another I'm in 12h a day, 6 days a week, and 4hours on the sunday.... it means I'm doing 2 french weeks in one (this chauvinist 35h law we proudly advertise huh!!). But because we need to finish in a Disney-type movie, I'll end up with the beautifull part. The seashore is amazing, and we're quite far from the stressful atmosphere of Democratic Republic of Congo (brother Congo-Kinshasa). And something amazing, there are more taxis than in UK, which, for my fellow english mates standards, is an amazing record.

Premier blog

Bonjour a tous,
Donc me voici arrivé au Congo (Brazzaville).
